Today is a really sad day! This is Oscar and his buddies. Oscar is not a lost puppy or a neglected cute cat. But he is so important to me as it should be for you.
Bees are struggling to survive and so are you. You may not notice yet, but bees are way more important for you to survive than you can imagine.
Why is saving Oscar so important?
Like us bees are a part of the cycle of life, there life is our life. Every time a bee pollinates our crops they are providing food to our table. Bees and other pollinating insects, play a crucial role in biodiversity and agriculture.
You thought may not be convinced but Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) estimates that out of some 100 crop species which provide 90% of food worldwide, 71 of these are bee-pollinated.
Since 1990’s we observed a sudden dissapering of bees, the colonies are declining so quick that some measures must be taken.
What is killing Oscar?
Insecticides pose the most risk for pollinators.
Parasites, pathologies and climate changes are others of the mains reasons.
Investigators are observing the bees development and a lot of malformations are occurring (i.e. in the cells inside the hive), insecticides effects as well bees on navigation and learning behaviour.
What you can do to help?
1. Spread the word! Share this post and similar posts! Talk with your family, friends neighbours about pollinators essential role in food production.
2. Oppose to pesticides that harms bees and other pollinators.
3. Buy organic food or food produced using sustainable practices.
4. Demand that authorities protect the bees and promote good farming practices.
